Brilio.net - Shallots are one of the basic spices that are often used in various dishes. In addition to being used as the main ingredient in stir-fries, shallots can also be fried to be used as a topping on various dishes. Before use, shallots need to be thinly sliced so that they are easy to process.
The process of slicing shallots often takes quite a long time because of their small size and must be done one by one. To speed up the work, many people choose to use a special slicing tool that can be found in stores or through online purchases.
However, there is no need to rush to buy the tool, because there is a simple way to make your own onion slicer using items available at home. A YouTube user, Creatividea, once shared an interesting tutorial on how to turn an old jar into an automatic onion slicer.
As reported by brilio.net from YouTube Creatividea on Wednesday (2/4), prepare a jar, jar lid, ruler, marker, cutter, dynamo, USB cable, used bottle, double tip, on off button. First, make a pattern on one of the jar lids. The pattern is in the form of three rectangles. Then cut using a cutter and set aside.

Take the other jar lid, make a hole in the middle. Stick the small dynamo in the hole. Glue it with hot glue so it doesn't come off easily and wait until it dries.

Next, attach the cutter knife to the three holes of the other jar lid. Add hot glue so that the cutter knife does not come off when used.

Then cut the used bottle and take only the top part. Measure above the jar lid and then draw using a marker. After that, cut the jar lid according to the pattern that has been made. If so, stick the used bottle pieces upside down on the jar lid.

Finally, just assemble all the parts. Put all the jar lids together. Then connect the USB cable to the cable attached to the dynamo and the on-off button on the used bottle cap. The automatic onion slicer is ready to use.

Just plug the USB cable into the power supply. Press the "on" button and then insert the shallots into this one tool. The result is, the shallots are sliced immediately. Practical, right?

Tricks for frying onions so they are crispy and not oily.To keep fried onions crispy and not oily, there are several tricks that can be applied when frying. First, choose fresh shallots with a dense texture so that the results are crispier. Slice the shallots as thinly as possible so that they cook evenly when fried.
Before frying, soak the sliced onions in salt water for 1015 minutes, then drain and pat dry with a cloth or paper towel. This process helps reduce the water content in the onions, resulting in crispier fried foods.
Use a large amount of oil and make sure the oil is really hot before you start frying. Fry the onions on low to medium heat so that they cook evenly and don't burn quickly. Stir gently during the frying process to ensure that all parts are evenly heated.
Once the onions start to turn golden brown, immediately remove and drain using a strainer or kitchen paper to absorb excess oil. To keep them crispy for a long time, store the fried onions in an airtight container after they have completely cooled.
