But it's just for a friendly match dedicated to Michael Carrick.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been confirmed to return to "Theatre of Dreams" for a friendly match dedicated to Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick on June 4.

The 75-year-old Scottish, who retired after 27 years at the MU command, will take charge of managing Manchester United 2008 XI team, bringing Premier League and Champions League-winning squad of that year.

The retired manager who has collected 38 thropies during his career at Old Trafford will face the Michael Carrick All-Star XI led by Harry Redknapp.


Carrick, who has been playing for Red Devils since 2006, said in a promotional video: "Honoured that he's going to come back and be part of the game. He's probably the sole reason I came to the club and I can't thank him enough.

"He's been a huge influence on my career, learned so much from him and he's the man who probably taught me to win."

However, Carrick's future at Manchester United remains unclear. The player's current contract ends this summer with no new deal yet in place.

A number of star players will also join the match including Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Edwin van der Sar, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, and Frank Lampard.
