Brilio.net/en - Red and gold angpaos, oranges, lanterns, fireworks - hope you had a fantastic Chinese New Year! Its been an incredible long weekend being a part of the fun festivities. People from diverse cultures came together earlier this month to usher in the Year of the Monkey. In fact, many of its symbolic performances, such as Barongsai and Wushu (martial arts) were conducted by local people. Heres a closer look at some of the cool festivities that were witnessed in Indonesia.

1. Chinatown, Solo

In the city of Solo in Central Java, Chinese New Year celebrations bustled through the Pecinan area, also known as Chinatown. A thousand lanterns were released and beautiful fireworks lit up the skies.

2.Sam Po Kong Chinese temple, Semarang

Multiple performances were conducted at this renowned Chinese temple, which was built many centuries ago in Semarang. People flocked together to observe multiple performances such as the Barongsai. The locals also entertained onlookers by performing traditional Indonesian music known as Dangdut, but based on Mandarin songs!

3.Kristus Raja Cathedral and Siang Lay temple, Kupang

Kupang was another popular destination in celebrating the Lunar New Year. Located in East Nusa Tenggara, Chinese-Indonesian Catholics headed to Kristus Raja Cathedral and Siang Lay temple to pray for health, wealth and happiness. Interestingly, the Siang Lay temple, which is also known as Gedung Batu, is the last temple standing in Kupang post World War II.
