This island is a national park with two ecosystem areas, consisting of 292.000 hectares of ocean and 70,000 hectares of lands. Its remote location has served as a magnet for tourists, especially for those who loves nature and marine life.

A paradise for floras and faunas

In Togean, there are mangrove forests and a stretch of sea grass bed. This sea grass bed is a favorite place for sea mammals to forage such as dugongs. There are also rare turtle species, such as Chelonia Mygas and Eretmochelys Imriocata. Furthermore, Togeans sea is inhabited by various marine animals such as pilot whales, manta stingrays, gray sharks (Charcharhinus amblyrhynchos), and rare coral reefs.

Aside from having a beautiful underwater world, Togean is also the home to endemic animals of Sulawesi, such as Tarsius Spectrum, cuscus (Ailurops Ursinus), deer, and coconut crab (Birgus latro). Amazingly, Togean is the habitat for 90 species of bird, such as julang Sulawesi or Alo (Aceros Cassidix) and Braminy kite (Haliastur Indus).

Diving is one of the exciting activities to do in Togean because its oceans has wonderful coral reefs and colorful fishes. The underwater world of Togean looks more magnificent with the existence of a B24 plane wreckage. This plane flown by the US Air Force during the World War II fell down in the Togean Sea in May 1945. Even though its wreckage had been submerged for a very long time, it is still in a good shape. Nowadays, the plane is the habitat of coral reefs and fishes of Togean Sea.

Togean National Park is located in Tomini Bay in Tojo Una Regency, Central Sulawesi. If you depart from Jakarta, you can fly to Palu by a plane. Having arrived at the airport, you can take a taxi to go to a travel agency which will drive you to Ampana. Palu to Ampana can be reached after a 10-hour journey. Afterwards you continue by boat which sail 10 to 11 a.m. each day.
