South Korean Presiden Moon Jae-in suggested that North Korea should be a part to co-host the 2030 World Cup.

In a meeting with the Fifa president, Moon Jae-in implied that north-east Asian countries could unite and form a bloc to co-host the world's biggest football tournament.

According to the presidential spokesman Park Su-hyun, such proposal will help to build peace between South and North Korea.

"If the neighbouring countries in north-east Asia, including North and South Korea, can host the World Cup together, it would help to create peace in North and South Korea as well as the in north-east Asia area. I would like President Infantino to have interests on this matter," said Moon.

Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino is the current FIFA president.

Infantino who was recently in South Korea for the Under-20 World Cup, said hehas told Moon he will turn to Chinese president Xi Jinping about the idea later this week.

South Korea itself was the first to co-host the World Cup with Japan in 2002.

Moon Jae-in has been open to more dialogue with North Korea since he got elected after the impeachment of Park Geun-hye in May. However, the North has been too cold to even turn down the offer and preferred to perform more military demonstration.

The two countries have been in armistice since the Korean War. Thus, the idea should be the next biggest accomplishment for both countries if the proposal were to come throughand if both have not signed a peace treaty until then.
