Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on its official site, has named Persib Bandung Asia's most popular football club.

The club's popularity has been soaring high after the Bandung City-based club recruited top-class players Michael Essien and Carlton Cole, last March.

The benchmark used by the confederation is social media and with the number of follower that reaches 9.5 million people, Persib is considered famous among other AFC-based clubs like Muangthong United, Johor Darul Tazim or Sriwijaya FC.

A vote result released by The Top Tens, somehow also affirmed the club's reputation. Persib ranked number six on the world's most popular football club along with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Persib, however, doesn't have much to boast in international stage as the club's best achievement was only to reach quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League in 1995.
