More than 1,000 km away from Jakarta, thousands of people took their time on a public holiday to gather and show their support for Ahok.

Last Thursday, on Vesak day, thousands of people gathered in Lapangan Puputan Renon, Bali for a vigil for Basuki Tjahaja Purnama who was sent to jail for blasphemy against Islam.

Similar to vigils held in other cities, protesters wore black as a symbol of grief; lit candles as a symbol of sympathy and hope; and sang national songs to show their love for Indonesia and its diversity.
