Vietnam-based airline VietJet Air has been officially granted a permission to open a flight route connecting Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City starting Dec. 20, this year.

Renowned for its bikini-wearing stewardesses, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi ensured that the airline would adjust its uniform policy with Indonesian culture.

"It's confirmed, they won't be [wearing bikini uniform], because I've told them that this is a Muslim-majority country," said Budi after attending the VietJet Grand Launching at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Central Jakarta, Tuesday.

"Respecting each other's values is obligatory. [We are] asking an appropriate attire that is acceptable in our country. Many kids may aboard [the aircraft], and wearing bikini is deemed improper [here]. VietJet has agreed to this rule," continued Budi.

With the addition of VietJet to the list of airlines operating in Indonesia, it is expected that the country's air connectivity with Vietnam will improve with the tourist visit will also be boosted.

"Indonesia must expand its connectivity with cities around the world. With the VietJet, then we'll have another [air-connectivity]. In other words, there will also be a volume increase [in tourism]," added the minister.

VietJet Commercial Vice Director, Jay L Lingoswara assured they would be committed to the regulation.

"We're committed and respectful of Islamic countries like Malaysia and Indonesia," said Jay.

Currently, VietJet operates 45 units of Airbus A320 and A321 with 73 flight destinations serving 350 flights daily.
