President Joko Widodo expected Indonesia to have more variety of vocational education in near future. The president conveyed his vision on the future of education and human resources development while opening the National Pasanggiri and 2017 ASAD Silat National Championship in East Jakarta, Tuesday.

"Why don't we have majors in megatronics, logistics, retail, animation, even e-sport," said Jokowi.

Jokowi assessed the Indonesia's current majors or vocational education are too monotonous or have only undergone minor modification over the years.

"I always told the Research and Technology Minister and Rector every time we met that we shouldn't be fixated on the economics, laws, social and political majors. I want we put in majors that the country need at this time," said Jokowi.

Of those suggested majors, e-sport might come out as one of them.

Electronic sport itself has been becoming a major in several countries, such as in South Korea.

E-sport which has been widely competed was arguably worth taking into account. The sport that takes a form of competition between players or team clashing in a video game had been popular worldwide. The global E-sports market generated US$325 million of revenue in 2015 and more than 140 million people had participated in such competition.

Jokowi continued that the addition of the department must also be accompanied by an appropriate character education for the country's potential improvement

Also on this occasion, Jokowi was awarded a belt of honor and a title of National Pencak Silat Academy (Persinas) Fighter by KH Abdul Azis Sulton Aulia.
