Brilio.net/en - We all have to admit that todays technology development is very rapid. It can also be said that the todays society is inseparable from technology, especially those that are vital to our wellbeing. . Therefore, there are many among the younger generation that strives to further push the limits of technology.

Controlling blood glucose by using an android application

One such example is the group of Farida Amila Husna, Rendra Budi Hutama, Achmad Sayfudin, and Rahmat Heru Kurniawan, four university students of Technical Engineering at the Electronics Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya(PENS) who created an android application for people with diabetes called 2 in 1 Diamon.

2 in 1 Diamon is an application package for monitoring and controlling the blood glucose levels of people with diabetes mellitus which is integrated into a glucometer and can be synchronized with a doctors website, said Farida to brilio.net/en, Wednesday (12/8).

Farida said that by being integrated with the glucometer, the app is able to generate a log of the data that it gathers. In addition, it can give advices on blood glucose control in terms of food consumed, activities, and medications.

The instructions of using this application are quite easy. You only need to fill out a couple of information right in the application, then checking your blood glucose level with the glucometer. Next, the glucometer will transfer the data to the application. One of the advantages of this application is that it can be synchronized with a doctors website, so the doctors can monitor patients remotely.

This innovation by the university students has been the winner of prestigious competition such as INAICTA 2014 (Indonesian ICT Award) and Merit APICTA 2014 (Asian Pacific ICT Award). Now, Farida and her friends have started offering their innovation to several hospitals so that many people with diabetes are getting the help they need.
