Brilio.net/en - The Communications and Information Ministry's director general of information applications, Samuel Abrijani Pangerapan said the ministry would remove a blockage on 11 Web-based Telegram's Domain Name Systems (DNS) within a week.

"This week, [the access] will be restored," said Samuel in a written statement, on Tuesday.

Samuel said the decision was made after the app founder Pavel Durov met Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara Tuesday afternoon at the ministry building, Jakarta, to negotiate the standard operational procedures to cope down the distribution of negative content on the platform, especially radicalism and terrorism propaganda.

Durov himself had also stated that his application would open a direct communication channel that connects the Indonesian government directly with his team.

He further explained that it normally requires 24 to 36 hours for the app to shut down channels containing negative or terrorism content, yet a much shorter period would be possible with a direct communication line.

"[A direct communication line to local government would allow it to] shut them down more efficiently within several hours," said Durov.

The presence of an Indonesian-based moderator that is set to supervise complaint from ministry would also build a more efficient communication, according to him.

The 32-year old Russian then emphasized the new scheme would only allow the government to keep an eye the contents on public channel, not the private one.

In mid-July, Indonesian authorities decided to launch a partial ban and prepared to impose a full ban on Telegram due to its terrorism content. The ban came out as the country suffered from a string of attacks, including one carried out by a man police said was radicalized after reading radical material on Telegram.
