Another Indonesian film has made its way to Cannes Film Festival (CFF). 'Marlina:The Murderer In Four Acts' (Marlina si Pembunuh dalam Empat Babak) has been selected to be screened at the Quinzaine des ralisateurs or Director's Fortnight section at the 2017 CFF on May 24.

The section itself aims to introduce new talents to audiences and critics at this prestigious annual festival, instead of to put them in acompetition.

The film will be the seventh Indonesian films screened at the festival. Previous movies include 'Prenjak/In the Year of Monkey' (2016), 'The Fox Exploits The Tigers Might' (2015) and 'Daun di Atas Bantal' (1998).

"The presence of Bekraf at CFF 2017 is also part of the government's effort to encourage the development of a national film ecosystem by providing an opportunity for creative economy workers in the film subsector to participate in the International Film Festival including at CFF 2017. In addition, Bekraf's participation in CFF 2017 is an effort to lure foreign investor to invest in the national film subsector," explained Triawan Munaf, Head of Creative Economy Agency in a release.

'Marlina The Murderer In Four Acts' itself narrates the story of Marlina, a young widow in a deserted hills, seeking justice after being raped. As she killed and beheaded her attacker, she departed on a journey for empowerment and atonement. Yet, the road is too long for her, especiallywith the ghost of headless victims beginning to "join" her.

The film by Mouly Surya, featuring Marsha Timothy, Dea Panendra, Yoga Pratama, and Egi Fedly will premiere in Indonesia at the end of the year.
