"Siege at Bukit Duri" Joko Anwar's new breakthrough with Amazon MGM Studios

This film stars Morgan Oey as the main character, a substitute teacher who is caught in a life-and-death battle when the school is under siege.

Brilio.net - Director Joko Anwar has just announced his latest film project entitled Pengepungan di Bukit Duri (The Siege at Thorn High). This film marks a historic collaboration between Hollywood studio Amazon MGM Studios and the Southeast Asian film industry, especially the production house Come and See Pictures. Amazon MGM Studios is known for prestigious films such as Challengers, Blink Twice, American Fiction, and Air.

This film also marks Joko Anwar's first collaboration with talented actor Morgan Oey. In addition to Morgan, The Siege of Bukit Duri also stars new generation Indonesian actors, including Omara Esteghlal, Hana Pietrasanta Malasan, Endy Arfian, Fatih Unru, Satine Zaneta, Dewa Dayana, Florian Rutters, Faris Fadjar Munggaran, Sandy Pradana, Farandika, Raihan Khan, Sheila Kusnadi, Millo Taslim, Bima Azriel.

The film, which will be released in theaters in 2025, is set in 2027. The film tells the story of Indonesia's unstable conditions due to discrimination and racial hatred. The main character Edwin (Morgan Oey) is a substitute teacher at SMA DURI, a special school for troubled students, who is caught in a life-and-death battle when the school is under siege.

Joko Anwar expressed his enthusiasm for this latest project with Amazon MGM Studios and its production house Come and See Pictures. He said he can't wait to bring this tense and urgent story to Indonesian audiences.

"The Siege of Bukit Duri brings up issues that are relevant and very close to our lives today in Indonesia, inviting the audience to reflect on their perceptions of justice and empathy. Meanwhile, James Farrell, VP International Originals Amazon MGM Studios, stated that this collaboration is the first between Amazon MGM Studios and a Southeast Asian production company for a theatrical film.
