Brilio.net - Confusion over royalties has emerged again in the country's music world. A number of singers were also involved in this problem. The reason is, they are considered to be commercializing songs without the permission of the songwriter at on-air and off-air events.
Song creators and composers feel that the royalty payments they receive are not comparable to singers who receive fantastic fees on the commercial stage. As a result, these singers were also required to apologize and compensate the songwriter for a sum of money.
Most recently, Agnez Mo was banned from singing the song 'Bilang Saja'. He was asked by musician and composer, Ari Bias, to pay a penalty fee for using the song 'Bilang Saja' without permission when holding a concert in May 2023.
Not only Agnez Mo, several of these singers have also been involved in royalty issues. The following is a review as summarized by brilio.net from various sources on Saturday (4/5).
1. Agnez Mo.

Agnez Mo received a summons from musician and composer, Ari Bias regarding the use of his song, "Bilang Saja" at three music concerts without permission. Before sending the summons, Ari Bias communicated with Steve, who is Agnez Mo's older brother and manager. However, he did not get a positive answer.
Ari Bias asked Agnez Mo to pay a total penalty fee of IDR 1.5 billion for three songs sung at three concerts, namely, Surabaya, Bandung and Jakarta.
"Because we are talking about what happened during the event, so the total is IDR 1.5 billion or IDR 500 million for each event. That is the responsibility of both of them," said Ari, quoted from Kapanlagi.com.
2. Ian Kasela.

Rival Achmad Labbaika as a figure who claims to be the creator of the song Cinderella also sent a summons to Ian Kasela as the vocalist of Band Radja. It was stated that the song Cinderella had been written by Rival since 1996 and recorded in 1998 with the Fresh Band.
The owner of the song, Rival Achmad Labbaika, decided to demand that Ian Kasela pay compensation worth IDR 20 billion. This is because Rival considers himself to have suffered a loss in terms of moral and economic rights which Ian allegedly has not fulfilled.
3. Once Mekel.

Likewise, Once Mekel has received demands from Ahmad Dhani to pay royalties for the song Dewa 19 since 2010. Because, Ahmad Dhani believes that the event organizer who invited Once Mekel never paid royalties after performing Dewa 19's songs.
Once Mekel finally responded to Ahmad Dhani's statement. According to Once, he does not need to pay royalties to Ahmad Dhani. He emphasized that according to applicable regulations, song royalties are paid through the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN).
"The distribution of royalties has been regulated by the government through LMKN. This institution collects it from people who use other people's work and distributes it to the creators. The amount has also been regulated," said Once as quoted by merdeka6.com.
4. Tri Asylum and Zinidin Zidan.

Singers Tri Suaka and Zinidin Zidan were summoned by a number of songwriters through the Indonesian Minangkabau artist communication forum (FORKAMI). This second subpoena demands royalties for songs covered by Tri Suaka.
Even though they had apologized, both of them were asked to pay royalties of Rp. 1 billion from Andika's side. "We have received our apology, but we have not yet responded to the Rp. 1 billion per song. It is not a fine, but it is the right of the songwriter as explained in the copyright law," said Arianto.
5. Via Vallen.

In 2018, SID's drummer Jerinx once poked fun at singer Via Vallen through a review on Twitter or X. Jerinx brought up SID's song entitled "Sunset di Tanah Anarki" sung by Via Vallen. According to Jerinx, Via Vallen has commercialized the song without permission.
6. Hanin Dhiya.

Singer Hanin Dhiya has also been involved in royalty issues with the band Payung Teduh. He is considered to have commercialized the song entitled Akad without permission. Apart from that, Hanin Dhiya also changed a number of lyrics which made the Payung Teduh vocalist feel disappointed.
Not wanting to drag on this issue, Hanin Dhiya immediately clarified and apologized to the vocalist of Payung Teduh.

Andre Taulany also received a ban from Ndank Surahman Hartono from performing his songs. This prohibition was expressed directly through a summons made by Ndank Surahman via his personal YouTube channel.
In the summons, Ndank, who is a former Stinky guitarist, said that starting from December 30 2023, Andre Taulany and the Stinky music group are prohibited from performing the song Maybe at any event.
"That starting today, I strictly forbid Stinky and Andre Taulany from performing songs by me such as 'Perhaps', 'Don't Close Yourself', etc. until an undetermined time," said Ndank, as reported by brilio.net from Ndank Stinky Official YouTube channel.
