Brilio.net/en - Semarang, the cosmopolitan capital of Central Java is probably best known for its lumpia, a spring roll-like savory snack made of thin pastry with various fillings. But theres a lot more to it if youre willing to explore, and Sam Poo Kong Temple one of its best landmark.
The citys oldest Chinese temple sits on 1,000 square meters of land and for its size doesnt draw much of a crowd compared to other destinations in Central Java, but its a really special place!
Established by the Chinese Muslim sailor, Admiral Cheng Ho (Zheng He) 600 years ago, Sam Poo Kong was built as Semarang boomed with trade, much like it does today. The temple has undergone several updates and now caters to worshippers from multiple faiths and ethnicities, including muslims, buddhists, Javanese and Chinese.
With very few tourists around theres plenty of space for epic pictures. Heres a look at this incredible temple in 15 photos. The tourists that are going there certainly seem to have fun!
