On the eastern tip of Java, just west of Bali’s Menjangan Island, lies Banyuwangi with its own hidden gems.

Brilio.net/en - In a conversation about beautiful beaches in Indonesia, Bali and Lombok are usually the first to pop into our minds. But on Java, Indonesias main island, there are plenty of idyllic spots where you can get tanned or hit the surf.

Banyuwangi is the easternmost part of Java, jutting out into the sea. Its just a short ferry ride from Bali and is one of the most popular crossing points for tourists travelling east. Before you jump on that ship, though, theres a few places you should check out.

1. Red Island Beach

Red Island or Pantai Merah mesmerizes tourist from around the world, especially surfers who look for great waves to ride. Red Island waves are about 2 meters high - perfect for rookies. Blue, crystal clear waters and red sand add charm to this secluded coastline.

2. Plengkung Beach

Nestled in Alas Purwo National Park, Plengkung is another surfers paradise thats earned international fame. Known as G-Land, this beach boasts the Seven Giant Waves Wonder, which is a series of big waves (usually seven) over six meters tall. The beach lies on the edge of a dense rainforest and you have to trek through the tropical paradise to get there.

3. Parang Kursi Beach

Located between Red Island and Lampoon Beach, Parang Kursi is another tropical paradise with turquoise water and pinkish-beige powder-like sand. Big rock formations dot the landscape. Getting here require another jungle trek!

4. Parang Ireng Beach

Dubbed the emerald of Banyuwangi, Parang Ireng has stunning rock and coral formations, which turn green with algae. Surrounded by the lush rainforest of Alas Purwo, the beach is a dazzling blend of green, beige (from the pepper-like sand) and blue. It gets its name from the heap of black rocks to one side. You wont find any facilities here and you need a guide and rented truck to reach it - but by the time you get there, youll probably have it all to yourself.

5. Green Bay Beach

Nestled in Meru Betiri National Park, this heaven-on-Earth enchants its visitors with a breath-taking view of greenish blue ocean and white, powder-like sand covered by tiny rocks. The beach is backed by a beautiful green forest, which gives it the name Green Bay or Teluk Hijau.
