Brilio.net/en - When the Batu Hijau Boot Camp community first appeared inSurabaya itimmediately got to work, cleaning up the neighborhoodof Kampung Kejawan Lor andteaching people aboutenvironmental awareness.
Batu Hijau is serious about its commitment to demonstrateconcrete action for the environment. Its main target audience is children. Its members hope that if they teach kids they can help tackle garbage, which is a major problem for coastal areas.
"We can only solve this issue by taking a concrete action. Through the Timur ke Barat (East to West) program held by Batu Hijau Boot Camp in cooperation with the Tunas Hijau Foundation, we have an opportunity to share an inspiration forchildren in a fun way," said Rachma Shouma, a marine biology student andBatu Hijaualumnus.
In a three-hour session, Batu Hijau wraps its message of waste and sanitation managemennt up with storytelling, quizzes and games.
The three-hours program gets a positive response from local residents.
"We are very pleased with the visit of Batu Hijau Bootcamp. They make us aware of how waste management could be positive to children," said Ahmad, one of the founders of anenvironmental movement in the Kenjeran coastal area.
