Brilio.net/en - By now you surely will have noticed that on every pair of jeans inside your drawer, there are several mysterious tiny buttons whose functions we never knew, until now. Well, if you thought they were simply put there as an accessory, you might be in for a surprise.

In fact, the little, seemingly less important buttons play a really critical part in holding your trousers together. They act much in the same way as rivets.

The history of the rivet is actually as old as the story of jeans themselves. According to Metro, the pivotal date is May 20, 1873. On that day, Levi jeans inventor Levi Strauss decided to put rivets on every trouser he made.

According to the companys website, the well-respected San Francisco-based businessman was approached by tailor Jacob Davis. He intended to seek investment in a new idea he had on strengthening trousers.

The tailor found that if those little rivets were placed on certain points, the trousers would become more durable. He and Levi eventually sought the patent together.

The new design became an instant hit, even though it wasnt until 1960 that the well-known overalls were christened with the now famous name "jeans".
