Electric kettles are one of the practical and efficient kitchen appliances for boiling water quickly. Its practicality makes electric kettles often a mainstay when you need hot water quickly to brew tea, coffee, or cook instant noodles. However, behind this convenience, there are several problems that are often experienced by kettle users.
One of the common problems is the appearance of water scale on the inside of the kettle. This scale is usually caused by mineral deposits contained in the water, especially if the water used is hard water with a high calcium and magnesium content. When the water is heated, these minerals settle on the bottom and walls of the kettle, forming a layer of scale that is difficult to remove.
This scale not only makes the boiled water taste bad, but it can also slow down the heating process and increase electricity consumption. To keep the electric kettle clean and functioning properly, regular maintenance is essential. One effective way to overcome scale is to do a thorough cleaning .
Many people usually use a mixture of water and white vinegar or lemon boiled in a teapot, then left for a while before rinsing clean. However, besides lemon, there are other ingredients that are no less effective in removing water scale in teapots. As shown by the owner of the Instagram account @mamiemanda.

Through one of the videos uploaded, he admitted to only relying on two simple ingredients. As reported by BrilioFood on Thursday (10/17), the ingredients in question are citric acid and baking soda. So first, pour water until it fills half of the teapot, then boil it. When it is hot, add 1 tablespoon of citric acid into it and cover the teapot. Then let it sit for 1 hour so that the crust is soft.

Next, drain the water and wipe the inside of the teapot using a tissue. Now, because the crust is soft, the crust will be easier to remove. A moment after wiping, the teapot will look clean and shiny.

Next step, pour water back into the kettle and boil it. After that, add 1/2 tbsp of baking soda and let it sit for 10-20 minutes. In addition to removing citric residue, baking soda also helps remove bad odors from inside the kettle. Then, if it has been left, drain the water and wipe it again using tissue. That way, the kettle will be more hygienic.

But it doesn't stop there, Instagram user @mamiemanda did the final step to neutralize the remaining citric acid and baking soda. The method is quite easy, pour clean water into the kettle again. Then boil until boiling. If so, discard the boiled water. Well, then the kettle is ready to use. For maximum cleanliness, don't forget to wipe the outside of the kettle using a dry cloth. Cleaning an electric kettle regularly not only ensures that the water produced remains hygienic and free from a metallic taste, but also extends the life of the device and maintains its heating efficiency.
