Old coconuts are often relied on for a mixture of various foods. From savory dishes to sweet snacks, coconuts give a distinctive taste to dishes. When using coconut, this fruit is usually grated to get the juice or coconut milk. However, there are also those who use the grated coconut for a mixture of traditional cakes.
Indeed, besides its coconut milk, grated coconut also has many uses for cooking. Grated coconut is often sprinkled on top of food as a garnish that adds texture and flavor, or processed into serundeng. Grated coconut can also be mixed into cake batter or desserts to provide a stronger and more authentic coconut flavor.
Well, when you want to grate coconut, most people usually use a special grater. There are many types of coconut graters used for cooking, one of which is a machine grater. However, not a few still use manual graters because they are considered more practical and easier to clean.
However, cleaning this coconut grater requires caution. Not without reason, the sharp serrated texture makes the skin of the hands easily scratched and injured. In addition to causing injuries, the sharp edges of the grater can also damage cleaning tools, such as sponges or even wire wool.

It does require a special trick to remove coconut residue on the grater to make it safer and more practical. Luckily, an Instagram user @wildan_ggcs once shared a special trick when cleaning a coconut grater. Through one of the videos uploaded, he admitted to relying on one simple tool, namely an old toothbrush. As reported by BrilioFood from Instagram @wildan_ggcs on Monday (12/8), toothbrushes tend to have smaller and more flexible bristles. This makes it easier to clean food residue, such as coconut pulp that is stuck between the sharp edges of the grater without worrying about damaging the surface of the grater or injuring your hands.

Well, how to use it is quite easy. First, rinse the grater with running water. After that, pour enough dish soap onto the surface of the grater. Once done, immediately scrub the grater using an old toothbrush. The bristles of the toothbrush will enter the small gaps on the grater that are difficult to reach with a sponge or wire wool, so that stuck food residue can be cleaned more efficiently.

After brushing, rinse immediately with running water. If you feel there is still coconut residue stuck, you can rub it again under running water. This will make the remaining coconut immediately fall off with the water, so the grater will also be cleaner.

Well, a grater that is cleaned thoroughly with a toothbrush will last longer. Not without reason, cleaning that is done thoroughly will minimize the buildup of dirt and crust, so that the grater does not easily become blunt or rusty.
