Brilio.net - Fish is a good source of protein and rich in nutrients such as omega-3, vitamin D, zinc, iron, and magnesium, according to doh.wa.gov. Therefore, it is important not to miss out on fish consumption.
Fish can be processed into various delicious dishes such as fried, grilled, baked, or steamed. Before being processed, fish must be cleaned to avoid the fishy smell. Usually, fish are smeared with lime juice before being rinsed to remove the fishy smell. However, often the surface of the fish still feels slippery because of the remaining mucus.
To effectively clean fish, you can follow the method from Instagram user @sakinahsil. In her video, she shows the steps to clean freshwater fish before cooking. According to her, lime juice is not enough to thoroughly clean the fish.
"For slimy river fish like this, lime is not effective. It still tends to have a lot of slime," he said as quoted by BrilioFood from Instagram @sakinahsil on Monday (4/11).

To get around this, he replaced lime juice with another kitchen ingredient, namely wheat flour. Sprinkle the flour into a container containing the fish. Then take and rub each fish one by one using your hands.
"Rub it all over the surface of the fish like this. The flour will be able to lift the slime," the account owner further explained.

Once you feel that all the mucus has been completely removed, the fish can be rinsed directly using running water. Rub the fish one by one to make sure there is no mucus or flour left.
"The fish slime will disappear immediately, Mom. If it's like this, you can cook it without worrying about it smelling fishy again," he said.
