This film tells the story of the terrifying experience of Pica (Taskya Namya) with her friend, Arum (Yasamin Jasem), while undergoing an internship at a dental polyclinic unit at a clinic on the outskirts of Yogyakarta.
One night, a mysterious, long-haired, creepy patient comes to the dental clinic, scaring Pica and Arum so much that they are carried into their dreams. Then various strange events begin to occur, followed by a series of tragic events at the Lembayung Clinic that they experience. When Arum is possessed, Pica tries to uncover the mystery of the Lembayung Clinic before his friend becomes a victim.
The story of this film is taken from a horror thread " Jin Poli Gigi " written by Pica via the @saturnrushx account on social media Twitter/X. The thread was popular in 2022 and received thousands of retweets and likes from its readers. However, the story in the thread was not finished because Pica stopped writing due to trauma from the terrible experience that befell him.
Baim Wong claims that this film will be a different horror film from the previous ones. Instead of being full of mystery and terrible terror, 'Lembayung' on the other hand actually explores the humanistic sides of humans that are rarely or never even raised.
"The film 'Lembayung' will be presented as a fresh horror offering starting from its appearance to the inside of the story. So it does not only rely on the horror side, but also raises a side that has never been discussed before. Hopefully, this film can be a solution for viewers who may be feeling bored with the themes of current films," explained Baim Wong during a recent press conference at Epicentrum, South Jakarta.
Produced by Emilka Chaidir, the film 'Lembayung', in addition to starring Taskya Namya and Yasamin Jasem as Arum, also stars a number of big names in the Indonesian film industry such as Arya Saloka, Oka Antara, Anna Jobling, Erick Estrada, Asri Welas, Daffa Wardhana, Ence Bagus, Wulan Guritno, Tio Pakusadewo, Sari Nila, Mario Maulana, and Dayu Wijanto.
One of the actors of the horror film 'Lembayung', Oka Antara, gave an assessment and appreciation of Baim Wong's debut work as a director. According to him, Baim Wong has the talent to be a director because he is able to manage a simple scenario into an extraordinary work.
"The Lembayung film is basically a different horror film with a simple script. However, Baim Wong's expertise as a director is what ultimately makes this film an extraordinary work. So I feel that Baim Wong does have talent," said Oka who plays Dr. Ringgo.
