Unfortunately, the letter was reported to be missing until a man whose identity is hidden recently found it by accident, tucked away in a record he had purchased for10 or Rp 160,899.33. The letter itself is said to be valued at 60,000 or Rp 965,439,000.

On the letter, John explained the reason why he returned the medal, citingtheKingdoms involvement in the Biafran War.
According to Darren Julien, a music memorabilia expert, as cited from CNN, the smeared ink in the paper could be the reason why Lennon did not end up sending the letter. There is also a possibility that the singer had re-written it. "If you're writing to The Queen, you want the letter to look perfect, you don't want the ink to be smudged."
