Brilio.net/en - Instagram, Facebook, the news, WhatsApp and then back to Facebook. We are always tuned in and turned on to our apps. I mean frankly, how many of us modern Millennials could survive more than a few hours without our technology? Even if our jobs didnt rely on it, we used our computers and phones entirely too often. Sitting on Instagram in front of Netflix isnt all too uncommon for most of us. But frankly, we could all benefit from a little less time with our gadgets. Theres health benefits too and most definitely mental benefits.
1. FOMO will be a thing of the past

We all get it. That pang of jealousy when you see one of your friends lounging on the beach in the Maldives, or skiing in the Alps, or eating that meal that costs the budget of your week, we cant help but feel a little jealous. Social media has us comparing ourselves to everyone weve ever met, and then some socialites. It just isnt healthy for our mindset. FOMO, or the fear of missing out, just causes unnecessary stress in our lives and it keeps up from being grateful for the things that we do have.
2. Your sleep will be infinitely more restful

Its no secret that the lights from our cell phones and computers keep us up late into the night. It doesnt give your eyes, and your overworked brain a rest. So turn off the movie on Netflix and indulge in a real life book. Youll be thankful when you wake up more thoroughly rested.
3. Youll spend more times with people that actually matter

In a survey conducted by Forbes, 3 in 5 people spend more time on their devices than they do with their significant others. Thats quite a staggering percentage of us who are using our time on things that arent as valuable. Even if this is just a small change, like turning your phone off at the dinner table, the differences will be immediately noticeable. Sure there might be more awkward moments that cant be averted by scrolling through Twitter, but theyll be worth it in the long run. Investing a little more time and energy into real life people versus our computerized gadgets will bring you back to the things that truly matter.
The secret to modern day happiness lies in turning off your phone. Even if its just an hour a day, try it out. It most definitely couldnt hurt you.
