Brilio.net/en - f youre like me, zoos have always given you goosebumps. Growing up, I just didnt enjoy watching a majestic tiger or a powerful gorilla pace back and forth between its confining lines. And I couldnt have been the only one because the higher ups in Costa Rica listened and theyve responded in the most awesome ways!
Costa Rica announced that it would be shutting down all of its zoos and free all of its captive animals! With about 4% of the worlds biodiversity, Costa Rica is rich in variety of species that call it home. The provisions are set to be in effect immediately, however two of the nations zoos are contractually obligated to stay open for another decade.
Environmental Minister Ren Castro says, We are getting rid of the cages and reinforcing the idea of interacting with biodiversity in botanical parks in a natural way. We dont want animals in captivity or enclosed in any way unless it is to rescue or save them.
Animals that wouldnt be able to survive in the wild will be kept at reserves and animal shelters, but wont be used for profit anymore.
The nation is a leader for animal rights, as they plan to ban hunting for sport in the near future as well. Book us a ticket asap!
