Hundreds of students in Papua held a demonstration in an action called the West Papua Student Solidarity (SPWP). They, consisting of junior high and high school students, expressed their rejection of the free nutritious meal program promoted by the Prabowo-Gibran government. The action took place in eight locations in Papua.
On Monday (17/2), police arrested 108 students in Nabire Regency who attempted to protest the program. They were taken to two different locations, namely the Kampung Harapan and Kota Baru intersections, under tight security from officers.
The video of the arrest of the students went viral on social media, one of which was uploaded by the Instagram account @informasi_karawang. In the video, a student is seen being stepped on by a civil servant .
" There is a junior high school, junior high school students try to raise your hands ," said the man. A student then raised his hand, and the man in the ASN uniform then approached him and stepped on him while saying, " You are a junior high school student? You came with aspirations? You study well, you are still small and have a runny nose ."
Seeing his friend being kicked, the students who saw it were initially displeased. However, at that moment, the officers immediately stopped the ASN. " Sir, don't be like that, sir ," said the police who witnessed the kicking action.
The video immediately invited many comments and protests from netizens. " What's the point of studying if you become a civil servant with your feet floating to your body ," commented one netizen. " What country is this ," said another netizen.
" Your shoes and uniform come from people's taxes, sir... And not to oppress people who don't agree with you... " said another.
Viktor then uploaded a clarification video on his TikTok account @callmynayakh, in which he explained that he did not kick the student, but only directed his leg. He claimed that the action was a form of advice to the students.
It was later revealed that the ASN who was the perpetrator of the kicking was suspected to be the Secretary of the Nabire Regency Education Office, Viktor Tebai. After his action of kicking and stepping on a junior high school student went viral, Viktor Tebai then uploaded a clarification video.
In the TikTok account @callmynayakh, the video allegedly shows Viktor Tebai giving clarification. In the short video, Viktor allegedly explains why he is angry with the students.
" As one of the parents from the Education Department with a teaching background, with my character as a person from the interior, earlier I was angry with the children for advising them ," said Viktor.
However, according to Viktor, he did not kick or step on the student at all.
" The issue that is currently circulating is that I stepped on it, that is not true and it is a hoax. Because in the video I did not stand straight down and then stepped on it, but my foot, I threw it to the side, then the shoe hit the junior high school uniform ," he explained.
"Then I said, 'You are an elementary school or junior high school student, wearing a junior high school uniform, why are you joining the younger siblings? If anything happens later, the burden will be on the parents, teachers at school and others,' I said earlier," he continued.
