Brilio.net/en - Happy Birthday to one of our most beloved candies, the M&Ms! Cant believe youre already turning the ripe age of 75. Cheers to you!

Heres a little background to how the international hit started.

The secret to the rainbow colored chocolate treats the month of June and the Second World War. Lets bring it back to the early 1940s. In 1941, confectioner Forrest Mars, (yes from that Mars candy company) was searching for an innovative method to make chocolate so that it wouldnt melt. This was, after all, the time before refrigerators made our life significantly easier regarding our food options. World War Two also brought with it wartime rations, and had Mars partnering with the chocolate creator William Murrie of Herscheys, hence the name of M&Ms.

The shell was made from sugar and corn syrup thus insulating the chocolate inside. And the idea took off. Soldiers were receiving rations of the candies and after the war, the chocolate candy had millions of loyal customers.

But whats truly remarkable about M&Ms is its success for almost a century. The brand has offered modern touches to its products, as was seen in 1995 when they discontinued the tan color and let voters pick a new one blue. Furthermore, the line has been updated with a variety of different flavours, some more successful and classic than others. Think the peanut one, for which a new colour will be added this year. Or my personal favourite, the coconut and mint flavour.

M&Ms have been a staple snack around the world, and were even sent to space in 1982 abroad the NASA Spaceshuttle.

Its no doubt been the treat that has passed the test of time. Evolving with the ages but remaining classic at the same time has been the secret of these famous round chocolate candies.

Its the treat that melts in your mouth, not your hand. Heres to another 75 years.
