Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's speech at the recent Fatayat NU event has been in the public spotlight. This is due to the choice of words that are considered inappropriate and repeating unnecessary phrases. A video clip of the speech went viral on social media, one of which was shared by the X account (formerly Twitter) @bospurwo.
In the video, Gibran appears to repeat several sentences, such as when he greets the kiai and religious figures with repeated phrases, such as "I respect the figures, the religious figures, the kiai."
Many netizens questioned the effectiveness of the speech, with some comments stating that the repetition of the word "para" was unnecessary as it already indicated a compound form.
Some netizens also gave funny comments, such as " It's natural because he graduated from abroad, if he studied in Indonesia his thesis would be scribbled on ." There were also those who commented, " I thought it was edited, but it turned out to be true.. He said 'The religious figures.. The Kyai... The Ibu Nyai..' " which showed their confusion towards the way Gibran spoke.
During the event, Gibran also discussed his dismissal from the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP). He stated that differences of opinion are normal in a democratic country. Gibran, during the inauguration of the Central Board of the Catholic Youth for the 2024-2027 period, also touched on the fate of the General Chairperson of the Central Board of the Catholic Youth, Stefanus Gusma, who was also recently expelled from the party.
On another occasion, Gibran was assigned by President Prabowo Subianto to carry out daily duties as president while Prabowo was on a state visit to Cairo, Egypt. This assignment is stated in Presidential Decree Number 34 of 2024. Gibran is expected to consult with Prabowo if there are new policies that need to be established during his term of office.
