Brilio.net/en - If you are looking for a different natural adventure, come by Goa Rang Reng. It is located at Banjar Gitgit, Bakbakan village, Gianyar sub-district. This is one of several waterfalls in Gianyar regency in Bali, only 13 kilometres away from Ubud Palace and 3 kilometres from the smaller waterfall Kanto Lampo (link to other article). The waterfall has just been open to the public for the past 10 months, after the clearing was made for the access points.

There is a big banner by the road as signage to the waterfall, and youll have to go down the big stairs that lead to smaller natural pathway that branches into two different destinations: the Pura Taman Manik Mas (the small temple) and Goa Rang Reng waterfall. If you wish to visit the temple, you must wear sarong, a scarf to be tied around your waist, and not be on your period for women. You can buy canang (the offering) at a small bamboo kiosk near the ticket booth. On the hilt of the river there is a union of several rivers (called as sungai campuhan) so the place is good for cultural ceremony called melukad which means a spiritual cleansing that is done by the locals.

If you want to skip the temple, take the right road and walk along the narrowing path. Within 50 meters you will be able to see the beautiful wide big rocks with water falling on top. The waterfall isnt tall and you can climb up the rock barefoot. Just grab the blue plastic rope they already set for you on the left side of the waterfall so you dont slip upon climbing. Take off your sandals for more safety.

Women on their period are not allowed to go further up, because it is a holy area around the cave from which the water comes. The cave is the end of the temple at the other part. The water discharge is quite high but you can soak in and take bath while enjoying the green scenery. If you climb up from the right side of the waterfall, there are several cavities that have been created from the waterfall that you can also soak in. The lower one is 1 meter deep and has a rock that is believed to give women who touch it fertility. While the one above is 3 meters deep, with a rock that can give men who touch it vitality.

Although the waterfall is not so tall, the rocks are very slippery. If you are willing to follow the river, be careful, as you cannot see the bottom clearly and that it has different levels with big rocks here and there. Because it is located on the hilt, the water runs all year and is not as turbulent the nearby Kanto Lampo (link to other article). If you come in the morning, the water is even clearer.

The entrance fee to this tourism destination is IDR 15,000 and the terrain is not too steep or hard to trek on. It is suitable for visitors of all ages, but be sure you wear anti-slip footwear because the earth can be slippery on wet season. Bring your swimsuits along, as you will get wet anyway. If you prefer to avoid the crowd, come on weekday in the morning, as daily visitors can be up to 700 persons on the weekends. If you need any assistance, you can ask for Bli Made (42) who opens a small coffee parlor near the waterfall and often guide trekking tour around the area for tourists.
