Travel booking website and mobile application Traveloka officially launched its latest feature, a booking service for train tickets, today.

The feature went live in January, but the official launch took place today.

Though Traveloka is not the first application to launch such service, the company is confident that they can be the leader in the market as it promises better user experience.

Now you dont need to guess which station you want to go. We know that its confusing because sometimes the station has different name from the city its located. Here, you just need to type the name of the city and well give you the station names, the companys product manager Arnold Pramudita said today.

We also have easy seat selection feature, scannable barcode so you dont have to print the receipt and even Traveloka Pay so you can pay directly on the website or app.

However, rerouting and cancelling order still cant be done through the application nor website. Passengers still need to go to selected ticket counters to do so.

Arnold said that so far the feature has been received well among their customers.

PT Kereta Api Indonesias (PT KAI) executive vice president for passenger ticketing Mukti Jauhari, who was also in attendance this morning, added Traveloka has become the highest contributor of PT KAIs external sales.

Sixty percent of our sales was conducted through external channels, and Traveloka manages to generate the highest sales among them in only 1.5 months, he said.

Educating passengers

It turns out that for PT KAI, selling tickets through websites and mobile applications is not only about increasing revenue, but also educating its customers.

PT KAI has been promoting cashless payment for more than three years and partnered with several e-commerce providers such as tokopedia.com and blibli.com. PT KAI also has its own mobile application and online ticketing service.

We want to educate people so they can keep up with the technology development. We cant always be left behind, right? Mukti said.

Its a big investment, but we can be more productive. People can learn how to use their time more wisely. For example, they now no longer have to stand in line to get tickets because theres already easier way to do it.

Mukti admitted that changing the customers behavior might take some time.

We know. When Commuter Line first used electronic gates, the resistance was so high. But now its done. People can change. They used to climb on top of trains, but now they dont do it anymore.
