Islamic Defenders Front leader Rizieq Shihab has been officially named a suspect for his sex-chat case.
Head of Jakarta Police’s Special Crime Division Sr. Commr. Wahyu Hadiningrat confirmed the status upgrade to reporters today.
“Yes, he’s a suspect now,” he said. Wahyu declined to elaborate more on this but confirmed that Rizieq is a suspect for sex-chat case — as Rizieq is currently involved in several other cases, from treason to blasphemy against Christianity.
Meanwhile, FPI spokesperson Slamet Maarif urged the police to focus on finding whoever shared the chat to the public.
“Just find out who shared the chat. Explain why it can be distributed,” he said to CNN Indonesia. “Stop manufacturing the case and criminalizing clerics before Muslims stop to believe the police.”
The other person involved in the case, Firza Husein, was named a suspect on May 16 after police drilled her in a long interrogation session and experts confirmed that the person on the sex-chat was indeed Firza.
Wahyu added that Firza’s case file has been submitted to prosecutor’s office today.
