Almond milk made from ground almond nuts is lower in calories than other milks, free of cholesterol, saturated fat, and is naturally lactose free

Brilio.net - We believe that there is really something behind the popularity of almond milk. The drink is recommended for vegans, those on diets, and even those who suffer from lactose intolerance. So, what’s in it for us?

According to Healthline, almond milk, which is made from ground almond nuts, is lower in calories than other milks (as long as it remains unsweetened). It's also free of cholesterol, saturated fat, and is naturally lactose free.

While almond milk doesn’t provide as much protein or calcium to be a complete substitute of cow’s milk, it offers many bonuses, such as it keeps your skin glowing (thanks to the 50 percent of the recommended daily amount of vitamin E it contains), it keeps your digestion healthy (it contains almost one gram of fiber per serving), it contibutes to muscle strength and overall health (while almond milk only has 1 gram of proteins per serving, it contains plenty of B vitamins such as iron and riboflavin, both important for muscle growth and healing).

So, if you are a fan of almond milk, congratulations, you’ve choose a great daily drink!

Unfortunately, in Indonesia, price of a bottle of almond milk could be much higher than a person’s lunch and buying it daily maybe bad for your wallet. An easy fix to the budget problem is to make it at home!

These are the ingredients you’ll need:

  • 1 cup (230 gr) whole almond (or you may use almond flour, can be bought at online stores in Indonesia)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 4-5 cups of water
  • 2-3 dates (any kind), pitted
  • 1/2 part of vanilla bean, or 1 teaspoon of vanilli (optional)
  • You will need: a blender, a thin cotton cloth, a wire mesh strainer.

Preparation (no need if using almond flour):

When using whole almonds (this will take longer) first soak the almonds in boiling water for 10 minutes, strain and place in a bowl of ice water. Peel the skins from the almonds individually and then process with water.

How to make almond milk:

  1. Drop almonds/almond flour, salt, pitted dates, and vanilla bean/vanilli into the blender’s jug.

  2. Add 4 cups of water then turn the blender on.
  3. Allow the blender to run for a 3-4 minutes to make sure the dates and vanilla bean and ground down and mixed in well.
  4. Add the remaining cup of water with the blender on low speed.
  5. Prepare wire mesh strainer in an empty jug/glass, line it with damped cotton cloth.
  6. Pour the milk into the lined strainer.

  7. Gather up the cloth, twist and gently squeeze to release as much of the milk as possible.

  8. And voila! You get the precious almond milk for a couple of days!
