Brilio.net - Venna Melinda, the winner of the 1994 Puteri Indonesia beauty contest, and her husband Ferry Irawan have undergone a divorce process. They were officially declared separated by the South Jakarta Religious Court through an online e-court hearing on August 3, 2023. This has been confirmed directly by Ferry Irawan's attorney, Khairul Imam.
Although it has been a year since they were declared divorced, it turns out that the two of them are still husband and wife. This happened because Ferry as the applicant for divorce has not read the divorce vows.
South Jakarta Religious Court Public Relations, Taslimah, stated regarding the divorce of Venna Melinda and Ferry Irawan that the entire series of divorce proceedings had been carried out, starting from the trial to the filing of an appeal.
"The appeal registration was on August 18, 2023, then the appeal was decided on October 3, 2023, and notification of the contents of the appeal decision to the applicant was on October 6, 2023 and the respondent was on October 27, 2023," explained Taslimah as reported by brilio.net from liputan6.com on Tuesday (20/8).

Furthermore, Taslimah explained that after there was no appeal from either party, the divorce decision was officially legally binding on November 13, 2023. The next step is that both parties, both the applicant and the respondent, will be summoned to pronounce the divorce vow which is scheduled for November 30, 2023.
"Because no one appealed, the final legal force was November 13, 2023. After it has permanent legal force, the parties, both the applicant and the respondent, will be summoned for the divorce declaration hearing on November 30, 2023," Taslimah added.

However, after the summons, both Venna Melinda and Ferry Irawan did not attend the scheduled agenda. Therefore, the court again gave 6 months for the reading of the divorce vow by Ferry as the respondent. However, after six months, Ferry did not carry out the agenda so that the determination of the case verdict was void.
"Because the 6-month period has passed, on May 30, 2024, a decision was made to dismiss the case. Because the right to declare divorce was not used," said Taslimah.

Taslimah explained that as the applicant, Ferry had the right to pronounce the divorce vow before the court. However, even though he had been given six months, the right was not used. Thus, the couple remained husband and wife.
"The execution for divorce by talaq must be conveyed during the divorce declaration in court. Because this right is not used within the specified time, the case is dropped," he concluded.
