Brilio.net - Some time ago the Mpox virus or previously known as monkey pox or monkey pox has again become public attention. Especially after the determination of the global emergency status due to Mpox virus infection announced by the World Health Organization (WHO) .

Not without reason, the determination of the emergency notice was caused by the clade 1B variant which is more dangerous than the clade II that existed in the world last year. Citing WHO, there were more than 100 thousand confirmed cases of Mpox after this outbreak was reported in 2022.

WHO further explained that the transmission was centered in the Democratic Republic of Congo with 90 percent of cases reported in 2024. There were more than 16 thousand suspected cases, including 575 deaths in 2024 with the endemic clade 1B and clade I virus variants.

Of course, this is quite worrying for the global community. Because, this disease is easily spread to various countries including Sweden, Southeast Asia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore where Mpox cases have also been found.

According to the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), in Indonesia there have been 88 cases recorded since 2022, while in 2024 there were 12-14 reported cases. It is known that Mpox in Indonesia is type 2B with a death rate or fatality of less than 10%. Even so, the public must remain vigilant.

One of the efforts that can be done to prevent Mpox infection, the public is advised not to share personal items with others, such as towels, clothes, cutlery and so on. Wear a mask if you are not feeling well. Also, don't forget to check with the nearest health facility if your skin experiences a rash with pus or scabs.

So who received the Mpox vaccine? To better understand, let's see the full review below, brilio.net adapted from various sources, Thursday (29/8).

Quoting from the Antaranews page, according to the Director of Immunization Management of the Ministry of Health, Prima Yosephine, the Ministry of Health explained that the Mpox vaccine in Indonesia is preventive, meaning that vaccination aims to prevent the appearance of symptoms or even minimize the severity of Mpox disease. Therefore, the Mpox vaccine is not given to the general public.

It is known that the Ministry of Health only provides 4,450 doses of vaccine targeted at 2,000 targets with each receiving two doses. It is recorded that 495 vaccines have been given to high-risk populations such as the Jabodetabek area. While the second dose has reached 430 who have been vaccinated, but there are 65 people who have not been targeted for this second dose.

The recommendation for the monkeypox vaccine or Mpox is only aimed at high-risk groups, including:

1. MSM (Men having sex with men).

2. People who have been in contact with monkeypox sufferers in the last two weeks.

3. Gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men (GBMSM).

4. Health workers who handle Mpox cases.

For now, the Mpox vaccine is not yet intended for the general public. Even children are not recommended for vaccination. Therefore, the public still needs to be vigilant by maintaining direct contact with people who are indicated to be infected with the Mpox virus.
