Landslide In Bali Kills 12 After Burying Villages

Brilio.net/en - Alandslide that struck three neighboring villages in Bali overnight on Thursday killed has left 12 peopledead.

The tragedy struck homes in Kintamani after extreme rain.

The Bangli Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) along with the Denpasar Search and Rescue (SAR), Bali Disaster Mitigation Agency, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Indonesian Army (TNI), police, volunteers and locals evacuated all victims.

Four died in Awan village, including Ni Kadek Arini (27), Ni Putu Natalia (10) and two guests from Suter village who came to stay in Awan: Ni Nengah Parmini (40) and I Nyoman Budiarta (45).

In Sukawana village, I Made Kawi (50) died and I Wayan Selang was injured. He has been sent to Bangli Hospital.

The landslide occurred at 11 p.m local time on Thursday.

In Songan village, the mud buried five houses and caused 7 deaths and left 4 injured.

The seven deadwere identified as Jro Balian Resmi (33), Jro Balian Kadek Sriasih (7), Komang Agus Putra Santi (1), I Gede Sentana (40), Luh Bunga (40), Kadek (20), and Ni Luh Susun (40). Budi (17) and Komang (14) were seriously injured and sent to Bangli Hospital while two other victims, Kadek Ardi (9) and Jro Alep (30) are being treated at home.

Karangasem recorded 145 mm of extreme rain on Wednesday.

The Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that low pressure in Western Australia broughtwet westerly winds into Indonesia.

Sea surface temperature around Bali is still warm ataround 28C, contributing to the growth of rain clouds around Bali.

According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) report, heavy rain is predicted until Feb. 11 in Bangli, Jembrana, Buleleng, Tabanan, Gianyar, and Badung, and it is advising locals to stay alert for possible landslides and flooding.
