Event Horizon: Sculptor's outdoor exhibition set for Hong Kong

31 sculptures of naked men will appear across rooftops of buildings in Hong Kong's central and western districts.

Brilio.net/en - British sculptor Sir Antony Gormley will be dotting the Hong Kong skyline with his cast-iron statues starting from this week.

The figures are part of Gormley's "Event Horizon," a public art installation that Gormley has been bringing to cities around the world since 2007. The installation was actually slated to be released in Hong Kong back in 2014, however it was cancelled because of person that committed suicied by jumping from the roof of the JP Morgan building.

The Hong Kong display is supported by the British Council Hong Kong and supported by the K11 Art Foundation (KAF).

There are four statues on street-level and 27 statues spread across the Hong Kong skyline. One of the most prominent statues is located on top of the 185 meter Standard Chartered Bank Building in Hong Kong's financial district.

"Many of the buildings in Hong Kong have names of the corporation," says the Gormly.

"They identify the building as part of the mercantile world. I'm interested in liberating the buildings as shapes. Shapes of landscape.

"My idea is that this is a form of acupuncture. These tiny needles going in and around the collective body of the city -- in order to release an energy that wouldn't otherwise arise."

Gormly has previously taken his "Event Horizon" to Rotterdam, London, New York, and Sao Paulo.
