Bank Central Asia (BCA) estimates two to three weeks needed for them to recover several of their automated teller machines (ATM) units that went offline since Friday due to interference on Telkom-1 Satellite.
President Director of BCA Jahja Setiaatmadja confirmed that they would perform a reroute from Telkom-1 to two satellites: 3,700 ATM to Telkom-3S and 2,000 to Apstar Satelite.
"The repair and rerouting process would require two to three weeks," said Jahja at a press conference, Jakarta, Monday.
Jahja alsoexplained the satellite intrusion only caused a shut down to 30 percent or 5,700 of 17,210 ATM units owned by the bank.
"So, it's not true that 70 percent of our ATM units aren't operating. It was only 30 percent," clarified Jahja.
For the rerouting process, BCA and PT Telkom Indonesia as service provider would have to go to the malfunctioned ATM units. Those non-operating units are the ATM that use VSAT system as their network and the ones that are located in remote areas.
The Telkom-1 Satellite anomaly has also caused disruption of the network in 126 BCA offices. The recovery has been carried out since Saturday, according to Jahja, and hasrestored 121 of them with the remaining five to operate normally starting Monday afternoon.
"Other services such as internet banking, mobile banking and others operate normally," he added.
The president is preparing a compensation scheme for customers affected by the incident during the recovery process.
At the end of the month, BCA will reimburse the cash withdrawal fee whenever their clients withdrawing money from BCA accounts using another bank's ATM.
"We'll free the cash withdrawal fee, but only for cash withdrawal. For other transactions, including balance check and transfer could be done via internet banking or mobile banking," said Jahja.
