Brilio.net - ARTJOG is not only present as a contemporary art festival, but also invites the entire community to be directly involved in celebrating this arts 'Lebaran' together. Never absent every year, this time ARTJOG will take place on 28 June-1 September 2024.

Different from last year, this year's ARTJOG comes with the theme Motif: Prediction. It displays the works of 48 individual adult artists as well as 36 children and youth artists who passed the selection.

The Director of ARTJOG, Heri Pemad, explained that the theme of this prediction has a fairly broad meaning. In fact, he connects the intersection between the past, today and tomorrow. This is then linked to the imagination and exploration of each artist.

"The idea of this prediction is not only intended to confirm the fortunes or predictions of fortune tellers in the past, however, this theme offers an opportunity for us to re-imagine the picture of events and hopes for tomorrow," he said at the opening of ARTJOG 2024 at the Jogja National Museum which was attended by brilio.net at the end of last week.

Artist couple Agus Suwage and Titarubi had a special opportunity to exhibit their work in this art celebration commission. He was deliberately invited to display several commission works to answer the big theme of ARTJOG 2024. Referring to the title Sound of Silence, this pair exhibited their work in various dimensions and media.

Some works are displayed in a special building which has a hallway with several rooms. Agus Suwage himself displays human ear objects as a symbol of the sense of hearing which is very "tolerant" in today's social space.

"Even though the sense of hearing is a very important sense, we can test the experience of need and experience silence at the same time," he explained.

In the same room, Tita Rubi exhibited her work in the form of rice plants in seed form and ready to be harvested. He also did not forget to add accompaniment to recorded prayers, proverbs and praise from indigenous groups in some of his works.

"This work at least describes the way humans understand a prediction, as prayer is a hope for a desired situation in the future," concluded Tita Rubi.

Divination by a Japanese artist

Apart from commission works, ARTJOG 2024 also displays the work of other artists. One that has managed to steal attention is the work of Jun Kitazawa. This artist from Japan exhibited his work entitled Fragile Gift. The work consists of a lump of iron from a Hayabusa (which means eagle) fighter plane into a long-tailed kite that can be flown.

Because it is large, it looks like the kite's tail has penetrated the outer wall of the Jogja National Museum building. If you look closely, you can see that the kite's tail contains various sentences that refer to one event.

It's the same size as a plane. Inside the kite there is history about Japan and Indonesia around 1942-1945. "In the tail of the kite, I display a collection of memories of old people who experienced the colonial period." he explained.

Jun Kitazawa also explained that this was his first experience exhibiting work at ARTJOG. This is what makes him even more excited to complete the work Fragile Gift.

"In the past I was a visitor, but I really wanted to be able to contribute to exhibitions in Indonesia," he said.

There are many other interesting works displayed at ARTJOG 2024. There is a work by the Menyusur Eko Prawoto Collective which presents a bamboo installation entitled Leng.

Apart from many exhibitions of works by artists, during the ARTJOG 2024-Motif: Ramalan event there are also other programs such as ARTJOG Kids, Meet The Artist, Artcare Indonesia, Jogja Art Weeks, and many more.

ARTJOG 2024 Motif: Forecast can be visited from 10.00-21.00 with an entrance price of IDR 75,000 for adult visitors and IDR 50,000 for children aged 6-16 years. Meanwhile, children under 6 years old are not charged any fees to enter ARTJOG 2024.
