In Photos: Tawur Agung Kesanga Ritual in Wira Satya Bhuwana Temple

Hindus prayed together and paraded giant effigies before the Day of Silence. Jefri Aries

Hinduscelebrated their New Year yesterday with the Day of Silence where they abstained from worldly activities and took time to reflect and pray.

While the Day of Silence was spent in tranquility, the day before was full of festivities.

In Wira Satya Bhuwana Temple, Central Jakarta, people gathered on Monday to parade giant effigies, or locally known as ogoh-ogoh, and held a praying ritual led by religious leaders.

The effigies were supposed to be burned to symbolize the burning of bad spirits and negative energies, but the plan had to be halted after the committee was informed that the temple location is near Presidential Guard Squads arsenal warehouse.
