Brilio.net - Cheese grater is a kitchen utensil that has an important function in food processing. This tool is specially designed to smooth various food ingredients into small pieces. Its main use is focused on smoothing cheese as a complement to various dishes.
The construction of the cheese grater uses iron or stainless steel material to ensure its strength and durability. This quality material allows the grater to be used for a long time. The toughness of the material also allows the grater to be used to smooth hard ingredients such as spices.
Although made of strong material, cheese graters are susceptible to rust. Repeated use and frequent washing can leave water on the surface of the grater. Moisture left on the surface of the grater is the main cause of rust.
Handling rust on graters requires a special method because of its perforated shape. The structure of the grater that has many small gaps makes it difficult to clean by regular scrubbing. This condition requires a more specific cleaning technique to remove rust effectively.
The use of citric acid as a rust cleaner is a common choice. The method of soaking the grated fruit in a citric acid solution is believed to be effective in removing rust. However, there is a more practical cleaning alternative using kitchen ingredients as shown in the YouTube tutorial by Khisma Arum Firdaus.
As reported by BrilioFood on Tuesday (12/17), the kitchen ingredients used are salt, baking soda, and vinegar. As for the tools, the YouTube user prepared a tablespoon and a concave container. This container will be used to soak the grated cheese later.
"If you don't have baking soda, you can use salt and vinegar. But the results will be better with the addition of baking soda," explained Khisma.

First, put 1 tbsp of baking soda, 1 tbsp of salt, and 3 tbsp of vinegar into the container. Stir until well blended and make sure all of these ingredients are enough to soak the grated coconut. If not enough, you can add more vinegar.

Next, put in the rusty cheese grater. Then pour the top using a spoon. Make sure the entire surface is submerged in this cleaning fluid. If so, let it sit for 10 hours.
Well, after soaking, the vinegar liquid immediately turns brown. This proves that the rust stains on the grater have faded. Next, brush the cheese grater using wire wool carefully. Then wash it until clean.

In the video, YouTube user Khisma Arum Firdaus shows the results of the cleaned grater. Sure enough, the cheese grater looks cleaner and shinier. Even the rust stains that previously filled the surface of the grater are no longer there. This proves that the three kitchen ingredients are very effective in removing rust stains on cheese graters.
