Brilio.net - The trash can in the kitchen is often a container for wet food scraps. As a result, this place is prone to emitting unpleasant odors. Even after the trash is thrown away, the odor often remains in the container.

If this unpleasant odor is left for too long without being cleaned, it can pose a health risk. According to information from wmwaste.com.au, the pungent odor from the trash can has the potential to cause several health problems such as eye irritation, coughing, and disturbances in the sense of smell.

Therefore, it is very important to do regular cleaning of the kitchen trash can. A social media user named Melissa shared tips on how to care for the kitchen trash can to keep it clean and odor-free. She suggests doing a thorough cleaning or deep clean at least twice a year.

Start by emptying the entire contents of the trash can. Next, use a cleaning fluid and spray it all over the trash can, both outside and inside. The cleaning fluid used can vary, for example a mixture of water and soap like the one used by Melissa. This method is expected to help maintain cleanliness and eliminate unpleasant odors from the kitchen trash can.

"I'm just using warm water and a tablespoon of dish soap," he said, quoted by BrilioFood from YouTube Clean My Space on Wednesday (2/10).

After that, sprinkle the inside of the trash can with baking soda. Well, this baking soda is the key so that the unpleasant odor in the trash can disappear. Let it sit for a while so that the baking soda can work optimally.

Next, wipe the outside of the trash can with a dry cloth or towel. While the inside can be brushed using a damp sponge. Brush for a while until the entire inside of the trash can is clean.

Once done, the trash can can be rinsed using water. Then, dry the trash can before reusing it. Melissa also explained that this method can not only be applied to the kitchen trash can, but also other trash cans in the house.

Now, if the trash can is dry and ready to use, Melissa has a trick to keep the trash can from smelling quickly. The trick is, before putting in plastic to hold the trash, you can slip a few sheets of newspaper first at the bottom of the trash can.

"The reason you want to do that is because newspaper will not only keep odors at bay, but it would also absorb those classy garbage drippings, and that can be tossed and replaced," he explained.
