Instead of smearing toothpaste or salt, here's how to clean burnt iron residue using just 2 kitchen ingredients.

Brilio.net - Burnt crust on the iron base is often a troublesome problem for users. These black stains appear due to dirt residue that sticks when ironing , the use of temperatures that are too high, or lime water used for the steam function. Unfortunately, many people ignore the cleanliness of the iron until the crust builds up and is difficult to clean.

The impact of a crusty iron is very detrimental to clothing. Black stains can easily stick and damage the fabric, even risking making holes in clothes due to burning. Delicate materials such as silk and satin become very susceptible to damage when exposed to an uneven ironing surface. Not to mention the burnt smell that can remain on clothes even though they have been neatly ironed.

In addition, a crusty iron also makes electricity usage inefficient. The burnt layer that sticks prevents the heat from being evenly distributed, so the ironing process takes more time and energy. As a result, electricity bills swell and ironing takes longer because you have to repeat the same part many times.

To overcome this, some people usually clean this crust with a number of special ingredients. For example, use salt or toothpaste. Both of these ingredients are believed to be able to lift even thick burnt crust.

But besides the two ingredients above, there are actually other ingredients that can be used, you know. These ingredients can be easily found in the kitchen. YouTube user SERABUT once revealed the kitchen ingredients used.

As reported by BrilioFood from YouTube SERABUT on Monday (12/23), he chose to use baking soda and vinegar. To use these two ingredients, first prepare a bowl. Then pour in enough baking soda. If so, pour in the vinegar and stir until the baking soda texture turns into a paste.

Next, pour the paste onto the surface of the iron that has burnt crust. Spread it evenly. Now, when applying it, make sure the iron is off and the surface of the plate is cool.

After that, let it sit for 20-30 minutes. This process will allow the baking soda and vinegar to soak into the crust. That way, the crust will start to soften slowly and be easy to clean later.

After being left alone, the burnt crust does indeed appear to be starting to soften. In fact, this crust can be rubbed off with bare hands. However, for maximum results, you can rub the burnt crust with the help of a soft used cloth. After the crust is lifted, immediately wipe it using a cloth.

Sure enough, the result is cleaner than before. Now, if there is any remaining crust that is still stuck, you can take the remaining baking soda paste. Then rub it on the burnt crust. Do this process until the surface of the iron is completely clean. Finally, wipe again until the surface of the iron is clean and dry.

In addition to being cleaner, this method is also safe to do continuously. Because with this method, the non-stick layer on the iron plate will not be damaged or peeled off. This makes the iron more durable to use.
