The action of Indonesian House of Representatives member Uya Kuya who created content at the Los Angeles fire location, United States, has drawn much criticism. Many considered that Uya Kuya did not show empathy for the disaster victims. As a result, he was reprimanded by local residents and asked to leave the location.

The video uploaded by Uya Kuya at the Los Angeles fire scene went viral and received a lot of criticism. In this situation, the member of the House of Representatives from the National Mandate Party felt the need to provide clarification and apologize to the public.

Uya Kuya explained that the purpose of creating the content was to provide the latest information about the fire and to counter the hoax news circulating. He claimed that he did not know that the video he took would be cut and presented without clear context.

" We also had no idea that he was also videotaping us and we only found out after he uploaded the video with a cut video and no continuation ," wrote Uya Kuya on his verified Instagram account, Sunday (19/1/2025).

Cinta Kuya, Uya Kuya's daughter, also tried to contact the TikTok account owner who uploaded the video of her father being reprimanded by residents. Unfortunately, the effort did not get a response.

" Even through her TikTok account, Cinta Kuya has tried to send a direct DM to the content owner to apologize again but has not received a reply, even though some of Cinta Kuya's explanations that she tried to explain in her comments column have been deleted ," she tweeted.

Uya Kuya also stated that local residents thought they were fraudsters pretending to be fire victims to gain sympathy and assistance. However, according to him, the situation was not like that.

" And looking at the comments on the original TikTok content, they think we are scammers who pretend to be fire victims to collect donations for personal gain because they don't understand our language ," said Uya Kuya.

In the end, Uya Kuya realized that his explanation might not satisfy all netizens. Therefore, he apologized to the public for the commotion that occurred.

Previously reported, Uya Kuya admitted that the viral video was true and explained the scene of the incident. " I apologize for the commotion and my mistake. Hopefully this will be a lesson for us. Yes, it is true that it happened in Altadena ," he admitted.
