Lower sentence of 9 years, emotional moment Ammar Zoni was sentenced to 3 years in prison & a fine of Rp1 billion

Brilio.net - Ammar Zoni's fate related to the drug abuse case has been decided by the Panel of Judges in the verdict hearing at the West Jakarta District Court, Monday (26/8). The ex-husband of Irish Bella was sentenced to three years in prison for drug abuse.

Ammar Zoni was not present in person, but online. The panel of judges stated that the man whose real name is Muhammad Ammar Akbar, was proven legally and convincingly to have committed the crime of drug abuse.

"Ammar Zoni legally and convincingly committed a criminal act without rights or against the law of buying or possessing class one narcotics," said the chief judge reading out his verdict at the trial, Tuesday (27/8).

In addition to a three-year prison sentence, Aditya Zoni's older brother was also fined Rp. 1 billion.

"Sentencing the defendant to 3 years in prison and a fine of 1 billion rupiah," the judge added.

In its ruling, the panel of judges also explained the provisions of the fine imposed on Ammar Zoni. If not paid, it will be replaced with 3 months imprisonment.

"With the provision that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced by imprisonment for three months," he explained.

After hearing the verdict, Ammar Zoni looked emotional with teary eyes. With a heavy voice, he stated that he accepted the verdict. The father of two also expressed his gratitude for the verdict handed down to him.

"Thank you, Your Majesty. I accept," said Ammar Zoni.

The sentence handed down to Ammar Zoni is lighter than the demands given by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) related to this drug case. Previously, the JPU was known to have demanded 12 years for Ammar and a fine of Rp2 billion.

Although his sentence is now lighter, Ammar Zoni still has to face difficult times behind bars. Meanwhile, the legal process may still continue depending on the prosecutor's decision on whether or not they will appeal.
