NASA made a research on domestic plants and the result showed that some plants have higher capability on cleaning the air and removing toxins.

Brilio.net/en - Sometimes we live in urban life that we forget to add nature in our space. Plants, as we already know, produce oxygen that we need to breathe in. NASA made a research on domestic plants and the result showed that some plants have higher capability on cleaning the air from mold, dust, paints and building materials, and removing toxins from the room. As ornamental plants, they look beautiful, too, to be placed in the corners of the room or to make a border around your balcony. You should start to consider planting at least one of the followings:
1. Aloe vera
This sharp serrated succulent plant is great for increasing oxygen level in the home because it also absorbs the carbon dioxide, formaldehyde and carbon monoxide. One Aloe vera plant can replace up to nine air purifiers.
2. The rubber fig (Ficus elastica)
This rubber bush / rubber plant can live in slightly dark place and is easy to maintain. It has an ability to purify the air of formaldehyde. But the leaves may be poisonous so you better avoid it if you have pets or small children.
3. Ivy (Hedera helix)
Although its berries are moderately poisonous, you may consider to having this herb. If you place this plant in your room, it will remove 58% feces particles and 60% of the toxins in the air within six hours.
4. Spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
Looking like spider legs, this houseplant can perform photosynthesis under minimal light. It is great in absorbing toxins from the air as carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, gasoline and styrene. One spider plant is able to clean the air in 200 square meters space.
6. Snake planet (Sansevieria trifasciata Laurentii)
Although its alias names sound dangerous such as Mother-in-law tongue, Vipers bowstring hemp or St. Georges sword, this plant is endurable and should be kept at home. It is able to perform photosynthesis under minimal light and produces oxygen at night.
7. Peace lily (Spathiphyllum Mauna Loa)
Also known as Spath, this plant can remove toxins, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene from the air. NASA recommends 15 and 18 of these plants in an area of 500 square meters. You will need 3 to 4 plants in your 80 square meters home.
