‘Gold’ is based on true events that happened in Indonesia in the early 1990s

Brilio.net/en - It's common knowledge that the finest actors out there are always the ones who have no problems going theextra mile in delivering a character, and in recent years, Matthew McConaughey has shown he is willing to do exactly that.While others may be fighting to break away from past roles, McConaughey is already on to "Gold", his next film, for which he's said to have gained 21 kilograms to recreate the characterof Kenny Wells.
The movie focuses on Wells life inthe early 1990s, where, freshafter after bankruptcy, he makes a journey halfway across the world to Indonesia and teamed up with geologist Michael Acosta in pursuit of gold.The pair later foundwhat isdubbed as the largest discovery of gold at the time and went on to enjoy their fortunes although surely not for long.
The fact that they were digging for gold in a country foreign to them inflicted an endless series of drama involvinglocal communities and the government, all with their own desire for a part in what's been discovered. Greed, corruption, and the scandal of the Suharto era in 1993 were put from and center in the film, which is based onthe true events of the Bre-X gold mine in Kalimantan, although the filming itself reportedly took place in Thailand.
As alluring as its yellow namesake, Gold is the stuff producers dreams are made of. This is a powerful, iconic story about chasing your dream regardless of consequence, and reminds us all that in this day and age, nothing should be taken at face value, said producers Teddy Schwarzman of Black Bear Pictures and Michael Nozik of Hwy16, as quoted from The Wrap.
Along with Schwarzmand and Nozik, Patrick Massett, John Zinman and Matthew McConaughey also had producer role in this film directed by Stephen Gaghan. ItisGaghans next big project after Oscar-winning Syriana (2005).
