Brilio.net/en - You probably wouldnt want to die only to know what Khong Guan is, but admit it, youre a little bit curious, arent you? Its a very famous assorted biscuit and has long been a part of every Indonesian childhood (and for some, adulthood). The biscuit is especially a popular snack during religious holidays.
Since its first appearance in 1971, the design of the big red biscuit tin has been virtually unchanged, and the vintage-style painting on the can has become a type of legend. The epic artwork on the Khong Guan tin depicts one family, a mother and her two kids, enjoying their teatime with the biscuits.
Recently, some creative minds have suggested variations of the Khong Guan family painting, which most of them took form as humorous memes:
1. Family teatime turned into a gadget-freak session.
Boy: Mom, Ill take a photo and upload it to Path
Mom: It rather be on Instagram.
Girl: Sh*t! My cell phone is Esia Hidayah (its a low-end non-smartphone).
2. The cup would never be full.
Boy: Mom, youre spilling the tea!
Mom: I know but it doesnt matter. Im tired of pouring. Seems like the cup would never be full.
Girl: Yeah...
3. Eat the plate
Boy: Is it just me or it does it not taste like biscuit?
Mom: Its the plate you eat.
Girl: Great.
4. Full of rengginang*
The worst thing after the struggle of opening a tightly sealed Khong Guan tin is, instead of finding the delicious biscuits you struggled for, you find rengginangs inside.
*Rengginang is a kind of Indonesian thick rice cracker, made from cooked glutinous sticky rice and seasoned with spices, made into a flat and rounded shape, and then sun-dried and deep-fried.

Girl: Decent meals are finally here! I have had enough of biscuits.

The fact about their father revealed! He has become a royal military guard and rarely being at home. They only have a chance to reunite during Lebaran and New Years, if only they send him in a parcel.

Boy: Mom, why is your face covered with so much hair?
Mom: I turn out to be your dad, son.
Girl: No way!
