Brilio.net/en - At 18-years-old, Bekasi-born Medina Warda Aulia has already achieved more than some people twice her age. The Indonesian student has already risen to prominence in the world of chess, and shes showing no signs of slowing down.
When she was just 16 years old, she was named The Youngest Chess Grandmaster in Indonesia. But she didnt stop there. In just a few short years, shes won national and international chess competitions, including the World School Chess Championship in Singapore and Pardubice Chess Festival in the Czech Republic.
But she just accomplished her biggest feat yet, after setting a new record in the Indosat Grand Master Chess Match. Its an online chess competition held through the Jago Chess app, which is available through Google Play. In the grand finale alone, she beat seven opponents and earned two draws. And throughout her run in the competition, she bested other chess players a stunning 650 times.
Aulia had never played against that many opponents in a competition, though she had played against 50 opponents simultaneously in a different competition.
In an interview with brilio.net/en, Aulia spoke about her achievements. It breaks the MURI and world record, she said, referring to her registered recognition both on an international level and through the Indonesian World Record Museum. Shes also been awarded the Lancana Satya Wira Kayra, a prestigious honor from former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
When asked who her toughest opponent has been so far, Aulia had no problem recalling a particularly difficult match. I played with one of the toughest players from China who is also the strongest player in the world. The Chinese chess player was so resilient and persistent, she explained. She also cited a player from India who gave her a run for her money. But it seems that many other chess players might want to look out for Aulia, who will surely take on her next challenge with the passion and commitment shes brought to her other achievements.
