Using dish soap alone is not enough, here's a safe way to remove turmeric stains on non-stick pans

Don't just rub it so that the non-stick pan doesn't get damaged. Annathiqotul Laduniyah

Brilio.net - Turmeric is an important spice in traditional Indonesian cuisine. This spice provides a natural yellow color while enhancing the taste of the dish. The distinctive aroma of turmeric is also effective in reducing the fishy smell of fish dishes.

The curcumin content in turmeric produces a very thick yellow color. This substance easily sticks and leaves stains on various cooking utensils. Utensils such as knives, cutting boards, plates, and pans can turn yellow after coming into contact with turmeric.

Cleaning turmeric stains on cutting boards and knives can be done by scrubbing vigorously with dish soap. This method cannot be applied to non-stick pans because it risks damaging the protective layer. Special treatment is needed to clean turmeric stains on non-stick pans.

The solution to cleaning turmeric stains on non-stick pans was shared by the Instagram account @mailanihajrin_mci through his video upload. The method used does not require dishwashing soap. This method is proven to be more effective, safe, and does not require excessive effort.

As reported by BrilioFood from Instagram @mailanihajrin_mci on Thursday (12/19), the Instagram user initially cooked braised chicken. Because the turmeric seasoning used was quite a lot, a number of kitchen utensils such as non-stick pans were stained with turmeric even though they had been washed with soap.

Instead of washing it again, the Instagram user chose to dry his non-stick pan. When drying it, make sure the pan is clean. Then simply dry the non-stick pan directly under the sunlight. The Instagram user then explained the process further.

"It turns out that there is a compound called curcumin in turmeric that functions to give the yellow color to turmeric. When exposed to UV light, this curcumin will degrade and break down in kitchen utensils after being dried under the hot sun," he concluded.

Sure enough, after being dried for several hours under direct sunlight, the yellow stains on the pan were completely gone. The pan became clean and shiny again. According to Instagram user @mailanihajrin_mci, this method can also be applied to remove turmeric stains on other kitchen utensils.

"Try washing the cutting board, blender container, and glasses that have been bitten by turmeric and drying them immediately," explained Instagram user @mailanihajrin_mci.
