Brilio.net - Students from Indonesia took part in the International Conference at the Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on April 27-29.
Through this event, the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh provides facilities for students to promote Indonesian culture. Not only through brochures, the students also introduced their hometown by bringing musical instruments, art and special food. There are also stands selling typical Indonesian culinary delights.
This event was not only visited by fellow students, but academics in Saudi Arabia, Ulama, and state figures also attended. One of them is the imam of the Grand Mosque who is well known to the Indonesian public, namely Sheikh Abdurrahman As-sudais or Sheikh Sudais.
Well, there was an interesting moment when the Imam of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Abdurrahman As-Sudais, visited the Indonesian stand. This cleric, who has a distinctive melodious voice when reading the Koran, was offered various kinds of culinary delights by Indonesian students.
Reported by brilio.net from the Instagram video upload @iday_adventure, Thursday (2/5), Sheikh Sudais was seen being offered typical Indonesian cakes. However, the cleric suddenly asked an unexpected question, making the Indonesian students laugh for a moment.
The reason is, Sheikh Sudais asked about a food that is popular in Indonesia, namely Indomie.
"Where's the Indomie?" he said, quoted from the Instagram account @iday_adventure.
His words shocked the students who greeted him while carrying plates of snacks. A few seconds later, they laughed at Sheikh Sudais' request.
He then thanked Indonesia. On that occasion, Sheikh Sudais even delivered it in Indonesian.
"Indonesia, thank you," he said.
The Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh revealed that apart from Sheikh Al-Sudais, this event was also attended by representatives of high-ranking university officials, as well as national and international figures from Saudi Arabia.
"Masya Allah. The Imam of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Sudais, also recognized Indonesian specialties when he approached the culinary stand of students from Indonesia at an event at Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University," wrote the video caption.
This video also went viral on social media and stole the attention of netizens. Many people did not expect that the Imam of the Grand Mosque was more familiar with Indomie than other Indonesian foods.
"Masyaallah, Indomie is truly global, Sheikh Sudais knows it by heart," wrote @michan_91.
"I will immediately carry out Sheikh Sudais' fatwa right now. Eat Indomie," wrote the account @ariosetiawan_.
"There are so many regional foods with various flavors, but what he looked for first was Indomie, the best Sudais sheikh hahaha," wrote the account @magnarex
"Sheikh Sudais knows Indomie better than other Indonesian food. If you visit Indonesia, you must be treated to complete Padang cuisine so you really know Indonesia," wrote the account owner @eprayitno39.
